Earth Day Celebrations in Los Angeles
You may have guessed I have a tiny, little thing for our Mother Earth.
If not, I definitely think she’s the best and should be celebrated regularly but I also geek out quite a bit on Earth Day. I mean, she provides us with air to breath, water to drink, food to eat, and beauty to appreciate. That’s more than I can say for most people… wait, did I write that outloud?
Last Earth Day I wrote an article called Every Day is Earth Day, which shares 10 ways to honor Mother Earth. This year to further honor her I wanted to share with you all some local Los Angeles Earth Day events for those of you who want to get out and show your appreciation with the masses:
Earth Day L.A. 2018 in Grand Park. This is Los Angeles’ largest earth day event, is completely free, and includes performances, tours, plant giveaways and demonstrations of the latest in green technology.
The LA Sanitation department has partnered with the Los Angeles neighborhood of Highland Park for an Earth Day festival, including over 50 exhibitors educating the entire family on sustainability, food, and entertainment. The Sanitation department will also bring their trucks down for us all to explore. Childhood dreams do come true!
The Elysian Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles will host this year's 29th Annual LA Gran Limpieza, which is deemed the biggest urban river cleanup and helps keep our Los Angeles River clean and pristine.
Speaking of cleanups there are also a number of organized beach cleanups, including Topanga State Beach.
The city of Inglewood is hosting a family-oriented Earth Day jazz festival that will provide education on environmental issues and to the sound of some groovy tunes. There will also be healthy food to eat.
The city of Beverly Hills will hold their Earth Day celebration at the Beverly Hills Farmer’s Market and provide information on water conservation, drought tolerant planting, earthquake preparedness, smart bikes, and alternative energy. As well they will provide free recycling for just about anything you could own, free compost (limited quantities), and document shredding.
This is just a sampling so if you go to the Internet you can see what might be happening in your specific area, including a so LA film festival. And if group events aren’t your thing you can always grab your own pair of gloves and trash bag and clean up any location you’d like. I can’t imagine anyone will complain.
