Mindful Mondays: Not Being Mindful

Mindful driving

Lately I’ve been quite mindful of how I have not been as mindful as I’d like. I've gotten into this not so helpful habit of rushing around to fit in everything I've committed to. It's been quite difficult to be present much of the time while in this state.

My mom sent me this quote by Deepak Chopra: “The best way to be in the present moment is to be aware that you’re not in the present moment. As soon as you’re aware that you’re not in the present moment, you’re in the moment.”

When I received her text message I laughed. At the powers that be. Kindly. Because what a sense of humor our universe has.

I tell my clients this all the time. And myself. Because it makes me feel better. And of course, because it’s the truth.

As a recovering perfectionist/doer/overachiever, I’ve really taken to mindfulness because there’s no way to eff it up. As soon as you realize you aren’t in the moment BAM you’re in the moment! How amazing is that!

So for this week, as your mindfulness practice, I encourage you to simply notice when you’re not being mindful.
